Note to all, if you haven't been here, this museum is just beautiful! The art of the building itself amazes me each time. The museum was closed for 7 years as the building was being renovated and it just reopened last year! I suggest that you start at the top floor and work your way down. Both the American Portrait and American Art museum are located in this unique building. I find it a nice place to just wander through and to relax in, modern sofas on the third floor and a relaxing outdoor cafe facing E St is open when the weather is nice.
This MUSEUM IS OPEN UNTIL 7:00 every day! It is also in the heart of the Chinatown (which now has shopping, a movie theater, bars, restaurants, hotels, the verizon center, and my gym even) and is easily accessible as it is directly above the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro. More details below.
