This old school cafe has wooden tables and chairs and wood paneling, like a step into a time machine to the 70's. I go there for the warm open vibe and for their for their fabulous fund raisers and open mic nights. The place is rather cozy for this town, and cheap eats are pretty good as well.
The Potters House also has a pretty impressive and inspirational bookstore and gift shop and also carries Equal Exchange fair trade coffee, which happens to be one of the best surprises in my book! A really good cup of joe, with a free refill, for just $1.10, and an extra large is just $1.65. They also carry lunch and dinner every weekday with a salad bar, sandwiches, and super affordable food. If you're looking for somewhere to eat for five bucks or less, you can do that here. Each weekday faround 1:00 or so they also serve soup to the homeless.

I don't go for the decor, when I do go, I'm there for the fabulous fund raisers and open mic nights. The down home vibe is rather cozy in this town, and cheap eats are pretty good as well. The open mic starts at 7:00 on Friday and offers an opportunity for poets and musicians to perform in an intimate venue. Always a warm vibe! Free wi-fi there as well, I just remembered!
Located at 1658 Columbia Rd, just a few blocks north of the heart of Adams Morgan on Columbia Rd about a block past the Safeway on the right. About a ten minute walk from Columbia Heights Metro.
