Dinner and Drumming event this Saturday, May 10th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm
You are invited to attend a fund raising event for the Young Women's Drumming Empowerment Project's 4th Annual Summer Enrichment Program!
There will be drumming, performances, raffle prizes and delicious organic food provided by Java Green, one of THE BEST organic vegetarian restaurants in DC! YWDEP strives to create a safe space for young women to build unity with one another, and to fearlessly express their authentic selves through drumming, spoken word poetry, song, movement and performance. More info at www.youngwomendrum.org
NOTE that this is a FUND RAISER and they are asking for a donation of $25 if possible, please give more or less as you are able. Though most all of the events on this blog are free, or close to it, every now and again I put up events that aren't because I believe in them and want to help spread the word. This program was created by my friend Kristen, who started with a drum, a vision and some serious drive! I can assure you that it is a fabulous cause, so if you can afford to spend some money and want to do something fun and feel good about it, here is your chance! You can visit their website to see pics and learn more!
You'll also have a chance to sample the fabulous food at Java Green, one of the best spots in DC if you ask me! They are a SUPER green veggie cafe that serves outstanding organic food and supports a great vision of green living... and they even use corn based cups, forks, knives, etc... Java Green is located by Farragut West metro on 19th St between K and L at 1010 19th St, NW. Also accessible by the red Circulator bus that runs along K St. More about Java Green at: http://www.javagreen.net/
Free in DC is an arts, culture, and consciousness resource dedicated to all the cool, free, low-cost things to do in Washington, DC… proving you don't need to spend a lot to live a rich life in this town! See DC through the eyes of a local who lives in the city and is plugged into the scene. All events are free, donation-based, or $10 or less and accessible by Metro or bus in VA, MD or DC.
