Hillyer Open Mic Events (HOME)
This Friday night, August 15th, from 7:00-9:00, International Arts & Artists hosts another event in its "Hillyer Open Mic Events" (HOME) spoken word poetry series. This month will be hosted by Simone Jacobson and will be featuring the poetry of Chirstopher K.P. Brown. After the feauture, there will also be an open mic. Poets interested in performing should arrive between 6:00 and 7:00 to sign up on the list.
In keeping with IA&A's mission of promoting cross cultural understanding through the arts, the HOME series provides a forum for expression, exchange of ideas and artistic collaborations. This event is free for IA&A members and $5 for non-members. All proceeds go towards supporting Hillyer's local artist series and public programs in the gallery.
This is a really cool space, very intimate with super acoustics. I was there last month for the first time and was rather impressed. You can read more about the featured post, Christopher K.P. Brown at www.twopensandlint.com
Directions: Note that the gallery is a bit hard to find as it is in the alley that is behind the Phillips Collection museum, you actually need to cut through the alley where the old and new buildings meet and walk back to the right. The alley entrance is on 21st St on the Phillips Museum side between Q & R Streets, NW
