Thursday, March 12th

6:00pm at 14th & V, BOOK TALK: Ha-Joon Chang will sign and discuss his book, "Bad Samaritans: The Myth of Free Trade and the Secret History of Capitalism," a debate on globalization and economic justice. Sponsored by the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

7:00pm at 5th & K, BOOK TALK: Ziad Abbas speaking about Gaza and the Right of Return. A Palestinian refugee and journalist from Dheisheh Refugee Camp in the West Bank, he is the cofounder of the Ibdaa Cultural Center in Dheisheh where he has served as Executive Director since 1994.

Friday, March 13th

4:30pm at 5th & K, FILM: Screening of "All of Us" This timely feature documentary investigates the social factors that put African American women at the greatest risk for HIV/AIDS and exposes the common power struggle that women across boundaries of race, class and country, face every night in the bedroom. Presented by Metro TeenAIDS.

6:30pm at 14th & V, BOOK TALK:
David Lozell Martin will discuss and sign his most recent work, "Losing Everything: A Memoir". In his pursuit of stability, Martin uncovered lessons that might help others who have encountered loss. Deeply personal yet surprisingly universal, Martin's story is for anyone who has wandered astray.

11:00pm at 14th & V, POETRY SLAM: The 11th Hour Poetry Slam is held on the second Friday of each month at 11:00pm. There will be 2 rounds with the audience choosing a winner. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Admission is $5.

Saturday, March 14th

11:00pm at 5th & K, FILM: Focus In! Cinema for a conscious community presents a screening of Queen Latifah's "Life Support." Inspired by a true story, LIFE SUPPORT uses a mix of actors and real people from the HIV/AIDS community to tell the story of an HIV-positive Brooklyn woman named Ana (Queen Latifah), who channels her energy and regret over past drug addiction into working for Life Support, an AIDS outreach group.

Sunday, March 15th


4:00pm at 14th & V, OPEN MIC Poetry:
Sunday Kind of Love, featuring finalist for a Lambda Literary Award for 10 Tongues, Reginald Harris and Carolyn Joyner. Bring your own poems for the open mic! Hosted by Katy Richey and Melissa Tuckey.

8:00pm at 14th & V, FILM: Focus In! Cinema for a conscious community presents a screening of 'Darwins Nightmare'. Forty years ago the Nile Perch, a voracious predator, was introduced into the waters of Tanzania's Lake Victoria where it quickly extinguished the entire stock of native fish. Its ecological impact aside, the Nile Perch became highly prized for its tender, plump fillets, and now cargo planes land to export the lake's gourmet bounty. In their wake, they leave starving villagers to scrounge a meal out of the discarded fish heads and rotting carcasses.

Monday, March 16th


7:00pm at 14th & V, BOOK TALK: Local poet and author E. Ethelbert Miller will discuss and sign The Fifth Inning, the first publication of Busboys and Poets Press! It is one man's examination of personal relationships, depression, love and loss, a combination of baseball and the blues.
