Wednesday, March 25th

6:00pm @ 14th & V - FILM: "Water Front" Join Food & Water Watch for a screening of The Water Front. The film shows how outrageous water rates and the risk of privatized service affected low-income people of color in Detroit, and how those citizens organized to ensure their right to water. The film will be followed by a discussion with producer Curtis Smith and Food & Water Watch Executive Director Wenonah Hauter.

8:00pm @ 5th & K - POETRY OPEN MIC: "Sparkle" A Queer Friendly Reading Series. Hosted by Regie Cabico welcomes our feature, Jona Colson. Open Mic also. $3 Admission

9:00pm @ 14th & V - LIVE MUSIC: Hump Day Groovez. Live music featuring "Three Generationz" (A'Cappella/Folk/New Wave). Maimouna Youssef, Nataska Humminbird & Navasha Collins (of the world renowned Fertile Ground) Three Generationz is a traveling musical company dedicated to preserving Native American and African songs and stories. I saw them recently at Busboys when they performed with Eve Ensler for her benefit event and have to say that I was impressed! NOTE: $10 admission.

Friday, March 27th

10:00pm @ 14th & V - MUSIC: Enjoy a wonderful night of amazing music with our resident band, PS24. Wowing audiences at S.O.B.'s (nyc), World Cafe Live (philly) and The Lincoln Theater (dc), among other places, PS24 delivers a highly entertaining and socially relevant experience that you will not forget.

Saturday, March 28th


4:00pm @ 14th & V - BOOK TALK: Editors Barbara A. Seals Nevergold and Peggy Brooks-Bertram will sign and discuss "Go, Tell Michelle: African American Women Write to the New First Lady," a breath taking anthology written by 100 African and African American women from all over the globe.

6:00pm @ 14th & V - OPEN MIC: "City at Peace" DC Open Mic Fundraiser. (This is an excellent organization. Hope you will support them!) The words "change" and "hope" have been tossed around a lot over the past year, but what is their real significance? Step up to the mic and tell us your experiences, opinions, and questions about injustices and the fight against them. Your voice is welcomed and important so put it to good use! Admission - $5 dollars.

11:00pm @ 5th & K - FILM
: Focus In! Cinema for a Conscious Community presents: "10,000 Black Men Named George". When the Great Depression struck America in the 1920s, finding work was hard, but if you were poor and black it was virtually impossible. Working for the Pullman Rail Company was an option, but it meant taking home a third as much as white employees and working some days for free. This is a true story of how a courageous leader came to be known as "the most dangerous man in America."

Sunday, March 29th

5:00pm @ 14th & V - PERFORMANCE: "The Domestic Crusaders" A Two Act Play About Muslim Pakistani Americans. The Domestic Crusaders focuses on a day in the life of a modern Muslim Pakistani-American family of six eclectic, unique members, who convene at the family house to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of the youngest child. With a background of 9-11 and the scapegoating of Muslim Americans, the tensions and sparks fly among the three generations.

8:00pm @ 14th & V - FILM:
Focus In! Cinema for a Conscious Community /Howard University Student Film Festival. This screening is a part of the 2009 Paul Robeson Awards hosted by Howard University's department of Radio/TV/and Film. Films that will be screened tonight are the top finalists chosen from all the works submitted by Howard students. The winner from this group of finalists (to be announced on award night) will recieve an all expense paid trip to the Cannes Film Festival in France. The Awards Ceremony will be hosted on April 9th at the AFI Silver Theater.

Monday, March 30

6:30pm @14th & V - BOOK TALK:
Doloris Coulter Cogan discusses and signs her book: We Fought the Navy and Won: Guam's Quest for Democracy, a carefully documented yet impassioned recollection of Guam's struggle to liberate itself from the absolutist rule of the U.S. Navy. Doloris Cogan concentrates on five crucial years, 1945-1950, when, fresh out of journalism school, she had the good fortune to join the distinguished team of idealists at the newly formed Institute of Ethnic Affairs in Washington, D.C.

9:00pm @ 14th & V - MUSIC: Vlado Kreslin. The Embassy of Slovenia invites you to Slovenian folk rock musician, Vlado Kreslin's live performance. His genre is a type of blues mixed with Slovene folk music.

NOTE: Save the Date:
Poet/Author Nikki Giovanni will sign and discuss Bicycles: Love Poems and other works. April 30 @ 6:30 PM, 5th & K. Be sure to arrive very early for this one as the room is fairly small and is sure to fill up early.
