Here's my version of a PSA (public service announcement)...
I want to give a shout out to the Whitman-Walker Clinic for their willingness to give FREE and totally Anonymous (not just confidential) testing to anyone who walks into their clinic. You can give your name if you want to, but you don't have to, and they will ask you to fill out a questionnaire for statistical purposes. For those of you who might be afraid or think that you don't need to get tested for HIV, I just want to remind you that DC has one of the highest percentages of HIV+ people (about 20% I have heard recently) and on top of that, even practices that you may consider safe do not ensure that you are in the clear.
Scared to have your blood taken or don't want to wait for results? No problem. The test is a simple finger prick and you get the results in about twenty minutes so you don't have to wait for them or come back. If you don't want to get tested and just want to talk to someone, they have all kinds of services there and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They accept donations so if you are able to give, please do, but the service is offered free of charge. Knowing that I live in a city that has a clinic that offers free anonymous testing makes me love this place even more as I imagine that it might be difficult to find such a service in some places.
Please stop by if you want to get tested. The clinic is located on 14th St between R and S St, NW and testing is done on a walk-in basis so you don't need an appointment. Other sites are offered in DC. Hours and Info are available here
