Every Sunday this park is packed with an amazing diverse group of folks sun bathing, hanging out, dancing, and drumming. If you prefer a more relaxed vibe, head down to the hilly part near the fountain closer to W St, there is also a flatter area at the bottom where you can hang out. The National Park Police recently requested that the drum circle acquire a permit to gather in the park on Sundays, which they have been doing for many years now, but those who participate say that this is a gathering of all kinds of people who just show up and not a formal gathering/ festival or event. I imagine they will continue to drum every Sunday regardless.
