In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the museum is pleased to present its first self produced theater production, The Conversion of Ka’ahumanu written by Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl (Native Hawaiian/Samoan). Set in Hawai'i during the early 19th Century, this poignant piece explores the complex relationships among Christian missionaries and indigenous women forty years after the islands' first contact with the West. Honolulu-based writer Victoria Kneubuhl is a recipient of the prestigious Hawai'i Award for Literature. The Mitsitam Native Foods Café will offer Hawaiian tapas, specialty drinks, and musical entertainment prior to Friday’s evening program. This performance is free and open to the public. Please arrive early to ensure seating.
