The SACRED DC Festival is this Sunday! I'm really excited about the Festival as I have been working with some friends to organize this event. It is sure to be an amazing day filled with performances, workshops, and fun for all ages!
Festivities from 10:30am - 7:30pm in Malcolm X/ Meridian Hill Park between 16th and 15th at Euclid and inside of the Josephine Butler Parks Center from 10:30am - 5:00pm. The event is Free and open to all. Donations welcome.
Here is an overview of what we have planned:
The Opening Ceremony will be held inside from 10:30am – 11:00am and we will kick of the day with some Kirtan chant/music featuring the Om Kaboom Orchestra. In the grass outside there will be room for relaxing, hanging out, drumming, dancing and play. Crafts and Activities for kids both inside and out, this festival is for all ages!
Outside in the Park we will have free Yoga classes (please bring your yoga mat) with my friends Jen and Yael, QiGong with my teacher Manifest Ra, Acro-Yoga with Vanessa and Recess (games we played as kids) with my friend Suzanne.
Healing Sessions will be offered inside from Noon-4:00pm. There will be a number of reiki practitioners, massage therapists and healers of various modalities offering mini-sessions. Please be sure to sign up early to get a slot!
Healing Arts Workshops will be held inside from 11:00-5:00 and there will be some outside as well.(I'm really excited about these since many of my friends will be facilitating, as will I.} We'll offer meditation classes of various styles with some excellent teachers and workshops on Shamanism, Reiki, Energy Medicine and The Chakras (with your's truly) and Naturopathic Medicine. We'll also have offer a Contact Improv class at 3:30 and an Acupuncture Demo at 5:45 in the park.
We'll have Two Stages for Performers, one inside and one outside, featuring live music, poetry and dance from some of our most talented local artists such as: singer/songwriter Courtney Dowe, poet Monda Webb, Ally Way, Kalicoh, hip-hop artist Head Roc, the multi-talented "human beat box" and lyricist Christylez, Brazilian Samba, DJ Vishal, The Malcolm X Drummers, and Dancing (with fellow organizers) Graciela Lopez and the Afrika Abney.
Free Workshops on non-violent communication skills for peace building, global justice activism and human rights will also be held.
We'll also have tables set up inside and outside where you can learn more about Local Businesses and Non-Profits and a silent auction inside with some great gifts from our sponsors that you can bid on. We'll have local food vendors on-site so be sure to bring some cash along to sample their local flavors.

Metro: Columbia Heights and walk about five blocks. You can also take the new Circulator bus route to 16th & Columbia or the S2, S4 or S9 bus along 16th St to Euclid.
Driving: Street parking should be available on Sundays along 16th and local side streets, just be sure to leave your car empty inside as a general city rule and be sure to read the signs (most apply only M-F). If you want to park inside of a garage, there is a Harris Teeter just across from the park between 16th & 17th on Kalorama, which is now one way. Not sure what the charge will be but you can check with them.
