I'm excited to announce to my readers that I will be working with a brand new local venture called "My Local Text" to help get the word out about DC Arts events.

What is My Local Text? It's a new concept idea that will send short text messages (90-120 characters) to your cell phone twice a week, one on Tuesday and one on Friday, to let you know about arts events and other promos. There are two categories, one for Arts events and one for Restaurants deals.

DCARTS - When you subscribe to dcarts you'll get info sent to your phone with discount offers or a note about a free art event happening that week. Larger arts organizations and smaller arts venues will offer promotions via text, likely last minute discounts. I'll be sending out messages about free stuff to do, focusing on the local insider Arts events. I figure that many of you would be excited about that, I know I am!

DCEAT - If you enjoy going out to eat and you want to feel good about supporting local spots and get special discount promotions, I recommend that you also sign up for the DC Restaurants feature, where you'll get discount offers for restaurants in DC, and in your neighborhood.

Support Local Businesses - My Local Text will be going hyper-local in the coming months and will be offering deals close to where you live so you don't have to travel far (especially in the winter and for those without cars). Be sure to text back your zip code if prompted. The dcarts will be mostly city -wide with some local features, dceat will be mostly hyper-local once they have more members signed up. The local focus is great for you, for local businesses, the community and the environment.

The service is brand new and local based, it launched less than one month ago! You can subscribe online or via text and you can choose dcarts or dceat or both.
