Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi (circa 369 BCE–circa 286 BCE) once dreamed he was a butterfly. When he woke up, Zhuangzi famously posed the question of whether he was dreaming of the butterfly—or if the butterfly was dreaming of him. Korean cinema’s resident provocateur Kim Ki-duk (3-Iron; The Isle) creates a contemporary variation on this ancient conundrum with this hallucinatory head trip of a film. South Korea / 2008 / 95 min. / Korean and Japanese with English subtitles.
