"Join Earth Day Network in a demonstration at DC City Council to show that the community's support for the DC Healthy Schools Act speaks louder than the soda lobby! This is a historic opportunity for our community to be the launching point in creating a national model for healthy schools and communities across the United States. After brief remarks on the steps of City Council, we will enter the building and establish a strong presence in Council Chambers during the 10am budget hearing." Wear Green if you can to show your support!

Did you know?

In DC, Soda there is currently no tax on soda when you buy it at the store (there is tax on it in MD and VA already) as soda is considered a "food staple" however, basic essentials such as toilet paper and feminine products are taxed! The proposed "soda tax would be an excise tax imposed on and paid by importers and distributors (not consumers and that), small business would not have to do anything" and currently "The District does not tax soda in any form or in any way, unless it is purchased from a vending machine" from the Myth-vs-Fact doc from Mary Cheh.
