Tomorrow night, Campus Progress, the youth outreach arm of the Center for American Progress, will host a special event highlighting some of America’s most dynamic and fearless voices on the spoken word scene. The event will be MC’d by Washington, DC’s own Dwayne B, with performances by lots of super local poets including:
  • Gowri K. - Poet, singer, lawyer, and activist whose parents emigrated to the U.S. from Sri Lanka
  • Jenny Lares - Co-founder of a monthly Asian Pacific Islander Spoken Word event Sulu DC
  • Song Rise - Local all female acapella group that raises awareness about social justice through song
  • Danielle Evennou - President of Mothertongue, a women’s spoken word organization, and co-host of Sparkle, a queer-driven reading series
  • Omekongo Dibinga - Spoken word activist focused on human rights issues in the Congo
