Well, I was walking down the street overheating and wondering where I could sit in some cool AC and Wi-Fi for Free without needing to commute too far from my apt or pay for waiter service (love you guys at Tryst but I already spent about $12 there today on lunch) and low and behold I wandered into the Starbucks at the corner of 18th & Columbia, a place I usually bypass but decided to tuck in for a but to cool off, and it turns out that not only do they have Super Cool Air Conditioning but they are finally offering totally FREE totally easy to log into internet! No cards, no numbers, no login or password needed! Just click on the attwifi option and whalah! So today I say to Starbucks: "Thank you Starbucks for providing me with the quiet cool air conditioning I don't have with my window unit in my top floor corner apt and Thank you for finally offering FREE Wireless to the people!" (especially to those city folks who prefer local indie coffeeshops or those who have no local coffeshops where they live). "I am warming toward you all a bit more. Now if you'd start offering eco-friendly cups, asking folks if they'd like for here mugs instead of putting everything into to go paper and plastic cups and offering more high quality options for your espresso I'd be really happy! But the free wi-fi is certainly a good start!"
Starbucks now is on board with totally FREE no login, password, purchase or card required internet! According to their post online this went into effect on July 1st. You can read the full post about their new free wi-fi policy on their website here!
A few new additions I should also mention which are not listed in my earlier wi-fi post include Qualia "Fresh off the Roast" Coffee on Georgia Avenue north of the Petworth metro just across from the Safeway and Filter, a relatively new spot in Dupont Circle near the Townhouse Safeway just south of S Street on 20th. Both of these spots are rather small and serve excellent coffee and espresso. Highly recommend checking them out if you haven't been there before. I believe that Peregrine in Eastern Market also offers free wi-fi but I'm not sure of the details. I'd also like to give a late night, after 10pm, shout out to Caliyogurt in Adams Morgan, which has delicious frozen yogurt and stays open 'til midnight Sunday - Thursday and 'til 1:00am (summer hours) on Friday and Saturday!
