PAST: ART: Window Exhibit "lotus:descending" by Matt Hollis at Smith Farm Now - FRI, Oct 8th, Free

Foam & fabric custom installation
Now - Friday, October 8th
Free
24 hours a day!

Inspiration for lotus:descending – come see Hollis’ fabric & foam whimsical interpretation. With the gallery temporarily closed until their next show (which opens October 15th) and Smith Farm Center in a state of physical transformation, they have invited DC's best artists to explore the concepts of transition and take over the gallery window display in their own mini exhibitions.

Hollis transforms ordinary into extraordinary, reality into surreality, common into exotic. In "lotus: descending" commonplace fabric and foam are molded into fantastical, wild forms that provocatively dance, consume, sway and grow before our eyes. And, in an instant, Hollis has removed us from our mundane routine and pulled us into his Technicolor world!

In FLUX window peek-show: Peter Gordon's ''File>Print'
Now - Tuesday, October 12th

"File>Print" (Pachira Aquatica plant & paper installation) serves as a visual metaphor for change, transition, transformation and the life cycle. Healthy leaves sprout from their wooden base, which then descends into twisted paper and ultimately falls onto the wooden floor below. In combining natural and man-made materials into new forms
Gordon addresses the impact our society has on the natural environment. And, in doing so, he challenges us to be more conscious of how we use and discard natural resources.
