For the first time ever in DC, the Transformer Gallery and the National Museum of the American Indian are presenting an exhibit of art by four Indigenous Hawaiian artists (Kanaka Maoli). These four artists have integrated into their art elements of their Kanaka Maoli heritage. The exhibits feature comic strips, sculpture, and a post-modern fictive exhibit “questioning the relationship between indigenous Hawaiians” and museums. The exhibit will only be on display for a short time, so if you are interested, make sure to visit soon.

Transformer Gallery's new exhibit is put on in conjunction with an exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian.
"Actively exploring their indigenous Hawaiian heritage and history, and its intersection with contemporary society, This IS Hawai`i artists Solomon Enos, Puni Kukahiko, Carl F. K. Pao and Maika'i Tubbs explore - through site-specific installation, artistic actions, and public programs - what it means to be "Hawaiian" in the 21st century."

The exhibit showcases an un-juried selection of work by 81 artists in Washington DC's creative community.

Artists featured in Artomatic Takes Flight are past participants of Washington, DC's signature Artomatic arts event. Art work for the exhibit was submitted by artists on a first-come, first-serve basis, from a group of over 1500 Artomatic artists in Washington DC's creative community.
