This weekend at the National Museum of the American Indian is the annual Celebrate Hawai’i Festival, one of my favorite Smithsonian festivals (they also have a chocolate festival every year that I love). There will be live performances, short films, discussions and lectures and family fun stuff like Hawaiian games, demonstrations of wood carving and kappa pounding and opportunities for kids to stamp their own kappa patterns. Every day from 2:00pm – 3:00pm, there will be also be traditional hula in the Potomac Atrium.
For a full list of events, see the brochure online.
