She'll be talking about her third book, Digital Sisterhood: A Memoir of Fierce Living Online this Saturday afternoon at the Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery located at Smith Center for Healing and the Arts on U Street. On a personal note, I have known Ananda for a few years now and it is great to see her book completed. If you can make it out to hear her speak, I imagine that you will be delighted by her as well. About the Book: In this memoir, Leeke details her journey, sharing experiences and insights helped her and her digital sisters use the Internet as a self-discovery tool and identifying leadership archetypes that shaped her role as a social media leader. The book shares how, over time, through interactions and conversations both online and in-person, Leeke developed the concept of “digital sisterhood.” Her blogging and social media adventures highlight the lessons she learned in the process, the reasons she launched the Digital Sisterhood Network, and the experiences that caused her to adopt what she terms the “fierce living” commitments. "Author, journalist, broadcaster, arts consultant, festival curator and this year's Washington D.C. Jazz Hero, Willard Jenkins continues to be a tireless advocate for Jazz and the musicians who create the music. Most recently, the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) presented him with the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award in Jazz Journalism. He will discuss his extensive career with writer and producer WA Brower. "Willard Jenkins' jazz activities are many and varied. He is a founding member and former Vice-President of the JJA and is the co-author (or, as he puts it, "arranger") of Randy Weston's autobiography, African Rhythms."

"Jenkins arrived in Washington in 1989 to serve as Executive Director of the National Jazz Service Organization and almost immediately established himself as one of the most popular programmers on WPFW. He distinguished himself as a host, writer and producer for Black Entertainment Television's BET Jazz and BET J channels and has written for virtually every jazz-oriented publication as well as for many online platforms. He maintains his own very engaging and provocative blog, the Independent Ear on his website Open Sky Jazz and has been a frequent participant in the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Annual Legislative Conference Jazz Issue Forum and Concert." But Jonathan Schanzer, an expert on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, argues that the Palestinian Authority’s political dysfunction and corruption are the true threat to a Palestinian state. Schanzer’s exploration of internal Palestinian politics highlights the reforms necessary to bring the Palestinians peace, prosperity and stability. Jonathan Schanzer is the vice president for research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and the author of Hamas vs. Fatah. He previously worked at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, the Jewish Policy Center and the Middle East Forum.

Out in the woods near the palace, they encounter a man named Damien who lives cut off from the rest of the world. Nina and Enzo decide to take refuge with him over night. The next morning, Nina appears to have disappeared. As days and seasons pass, Damien and Enzo grow fond of each other, unaware that one day they will have to leave the safe haven of their makeshift hideaway. (In French with English subtitles).

About the name Acorns A Go-Go: "Acorns are abundant in the fall and oak trees (from which acorns grow) are a vital part of our ecological system. Acorns A Go-Go is taking place in historic Greenbelt, a Tree City, which exists in an oak forest. In addition to the acorn theme, they combined Go-Go -- for a funky, psychedelic 60's backdrop. It was in the 1960's the DC music genre Gogo was born and also a time when go-go dancers started dancing in DJ booths at the famous Whiskey A Go-Go in Hollywood, CA. The 60's decade was a time of movers and shakers and paradigm breakers. The times we live in call for a revival of that same energy of peace, love, understanding and vegan Go-Go! So, feel free to do your own thing to get into the 60's Go-Go spirit - put on your love beads, vegan Birkenstocks, pleather go-go boots, tie-dyed t-shirts, mod minis or whatever ideas you have to let your inner vegan flower child out to play!"

Indus Imports invites you to a free community concert with local kirtan musician Angela Blueskies. Angela is a musician, sound healer, and medicine woman who carries deep understanding of the healing powers of music. She has shared her music in concert halls, churches, schools, yoga studios, temples, in nature, and in sacred ceremony across four continents. She is an enthusiastic teacher and facilitator, and enjoys empowering people in connecting with themselves, their gifts, and their own inner wisdom. On a side note, I also happen to know Angela and have a special connection with her since we both went to Goddard College for a bit. I've been to many of her kirtans over the years and recommend checking out her performance if you can get to Old Town this Friday night.

About the show, from the invite: "In his recent paintings “Territories,” Joan explores psychological and political perspectives through the universality of maps. The series, based on maps from his native Chile, pay homage to the indigenous people who are so rarely referenced in anthropology and cartography. Finding himself suspended between the personal and universal as he rediscovered the maps of his childhood, Joan utilizes symbols, colors, drawings, grids, dots, and lines to search for freedom in a structured world. His works reference a time in our past that is impossible to recreate, but important to remember."

"Lori Anne Boocks is the keeper of stories. The passage of time creates layers of experience through the remembering, misremembering, and forgetting of stories. Each of these moments are important influences on her painting and thinking. In her newest work, text continues to serve as both subject matter and the basis for mark-making. CONNERSMITH. presents two concurrent exhibitions, "Festoon" by Zoë Charlton and "Faust in the City" by Wilmer Wilson IV. Both exhibitions confront racial stereotypes by superimposing the human body against a backdrop of socially accepted mores, the com-modification of “the ideal lifestyle” and by juxtaposing wealthy DC neighborhoods with its poorest.
