Djesben and Groovananda: Double the World Music Fun near Grosvenor, MD
Djesben and Groovananda live at St Mark Presbyterian Church in Rockville
7:30pm
$10 in advance, $15 door
If you like World-Beat, Jamband, Rock, Jazz, Kirtan, Folk, Indian, Trance or Gospel... you may want to check out Groovananda. "Groovananda (which means “the bliss of the groove") is a yoga rock band that has influences including funk, jazz, yoga and Indian music. Fronted by yoga music pioneer Wynne Paris on harmonium, guitar and Sarod; the band moves from meditative spaces to exuberant and funky call and response jams. Guitarist and Yoga teacher Kelly Fisher offers up riffs and Asanas and percussionist Wes Crawford lays down the beat." "Djesben is a trio of multi-instrumentalists whose diverse backgrounds combine to create an original sound dubbed “World Jazz Groove.” The instruments of Djesben are not those of the typical trio: Topher Dunne plays the Chapman Stick, a 10-string tapping instrument with the range of a piano; Katy Gaughan plays a battery of percussion centered around her conga drums, the tall, wide-bellied hand drums of Latin music; Christian Crowley plays the dulcimer, a small stringed instrument from the Appalachian mountains that can be strummed like a guitar or bowed like a violin."
