PAST: "Singing in the African American Tradition" Community Sing with Ysaye Barnwell at CHAW on Capitol Hill this MON, Jan 24th at 7:00pm, $10

Building a Vocal Community®
Singing in the African American Tradition
Monday, January 24th
$10, Reservations encouraged*

I've been to a Community Sing with Ysaye at the Levine School before and she is amazing! (I just checked the calendar and it looks like they are having one this Wednesday, January 19th at the Van Ness Campus FYI, just $5) If you haven't been before. This event will be led by Dr. Ysaye M. Barnwell, of Sweet Honey in the Rock, and is open to singers and non-singers alike . You don't need to have any singing background or even a great voice to attend, just a desire to see in community with others.

For this event, Ysaye will share the common experience of learning in the oral tradition and singing rhythms, chants, traditional songs from Africa and the Diaspora, and a variety of songs from African American culture including spirituals, ring shouts, hymns, gospels, and songs from the Civil Rights Movement.

RSVP: (202) 547-6839 or email victor@chaw.org
