Each year this free festival brings new artists, more child-friendly activities, and a broader array of interactive events for all ages.  Events will include the return of the popular sock puppet studio, hand dancing instruction and performances and neighborhood walking tours. There will also be Virginia wine tasting, artist performances, and art exhibits as well as performances by poets and hip hop artists, including POEM-CEES, R&B artist EVG and singer/musician Kendall Isadore. Special activities for kids include Blues and Blowfish, painting at the SW Duck Pond, and the Annual End of Summer Fair. For the latest schedule of events, visit SW ArtsFest website. You can also find them on twitter @swdcartsfest.

The 9th Annual Jazz Preservation Festival will take place at Westminster Church from 12:00pm - 8:00pm and is also free. D.C.'s so-called "Jazz Church" is teaming up with WPFW to host the 9th Annual DC Jazz Preservation Festival. Expect great food, an assortment of vendors and righteous jazz all afternoon long. See the schedule of performers here. The event will close with an open jam session, all authentic jazz musicians welcome.
