"A Splendid Wake" brings together current DC poets to honor past DC poets who have built and sustained a complex and multifaceted literary community in the capital city. Speakers include: Karren L. Alenier, Luis Alberto Ambroggio, Sarah Browning, Grace Cavalieri, Teri Cross Davis, Brian Gilmore, D.C.'s Poet Laureate Dolores Kendrick, Jennifer King, Merrill Leffler, E. Ethelbert Miller, Richard Peabody, Kim Roberts, Christopher Sten, and Terence Winch.

This program also inaugurates a new Wiki to collect information about poets, movements, publications, events, institutions, and broadcasts in DC from 1900 to the present to "provide a picture of the diverse and unique life of poetry that evolved over more than a century." The event will be inaugurated by the Hon. Jim Graham, reading a poem by Walt Whitman.
