PAST: FILM: About Artists + Freedom of Speech - True story of a Burmese Comic Now in Prison, Screens TUES, April 5th $10 + WED, April 6th, Free

If you missed the screening of the documentary about imprisoned Burmese Comedian Zarganar "This Prison Where I Live" there are still 2 more screenings in DC! I took this picture at the U.S. Premiere Screening at Artisphee (in the round dome theater which was really cool) and was really inspired by the story and the risks that were taken to make this film.

Take a rare and forbidden glimpse into life in Burma (Myanmar) and the penalties inflicted when people - artists especially - try to express themselves. Footage from interview with Zarganar in 2007 and a return trip with a German Comedian in 2010 - after learning that Zarganar was sentenced to 59 years in prison, now reduced to 35 (of which he has served over 2 years).
