This week is also a great time to explore some museums...
- The Smithsonian Museums will remain open every day except for Christmas itself.
- Same goes for National Geographic Museum.
- The Phillips Collection is also open Tuesday - Sunday and will be closed on Christmas and New Years, but if you are off on a weekday, it might be a great time to visit. The permanent collection is by donation, see info about admission here.
- CultureCapital.com (a program of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington) is a great site that also has a super calendar and an excellent advanced search option (you'll see it in tiny font) and they even have a special category for Free!
- TICKETPLACE.org is a great resource where you can find half-price tickets in advance and last minute online to lots of great shows!
- Find all events happening at the Smithsonian Museums listed in one place (rather than having to click on each museum's site individually) at goSmithsonian.com. They have a great calendar option and category listings so you can sort by type of event as well.
The Washington City Paper Arts Desk has a list of events in their calendar, but in order to see it you need to scroll all the way down to the bottom on the page beneath the blog posts.
- See Galleries and Museums listings to find info about current exhibitions.
- See Music events of all kinds at the bottom of this page.
Venues that will still be hosting events which I recommend:
- Busboys and Poets has lots of events from author events to film screenings, poetry readings and discussions. All kinds of stuff. They have two DC locations, one at 14th & V and one at 5th & K. You can see their online calendar here.
- The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage is still hosting free shows every day at 6:00pm. You can either attend in person or watch it live online from wherever you are! You can also watch past shows that are in their Archives, lots of great shows to choose from!
Since there aren't that many events and it is the holiday, I won't be posting much over the next week or so. Hope this list of resources is helpful to you!
Look for more posts in the coming year. I'm also working on visioning what I want the new Free in DC site to look like as I plan to switch off of blogger to my own site sometime between now and March if all goes well. Please consider donating to the site to support the creation of the new site, every little bit helps! I'm also planning to organize some fundraiser events with local venues and artists so keep your eyes open for those in the coming year. It'll be great to meet some of my readers in person.
Wishing you a wonderful year ahead!
