Saturday, December 6
11:00am - 7:00pm
Free to attend, though you'll likely want to have some money to shop while there
Nomad Yard Collectiv will be donating 10% of all sales that day to Autism Speaks to fund research into the causes, prevention and treatments to ultimately find a cure for autism.
The lifestyle store carries goods from local makers, crafters and collectors to include carpets and textiles, “up-cycled” home furnishings and antique furniture from Yeatman & Lavin, expertly curated vintage and contemporary women’s and men’s clothing, jewelry alongside other curiosities. Jewelry and artwork from Nellie’s Gems, a designer who is on the autism spectrum, will also be available for sale.
Autism is a complex neuro-developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a “spectrum disorder” that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. Autism has risen from 1 in 110 in 2008 to 1 in 88 in 2012 in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is the fastest-growing developmental disability today. There is no known single cause for autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families. Autism Speaks is an autism fundraising, science and advocacy organization founded in 2005 by a couple whose grandchild had autism.
