The DC Public Library and Transformer are proud to present artist Jessica Cebra in conversation with DC Public Library specialists to examine the ways we collect, preserve and present cultural artifacts. "We can't save everything, so how do we decide what has lasting value? Who gets to decide? What will be relevant to future generations?"
Having studied Library Science, archives management and historic preservation, Cebra believes that collecting, arranging, categorizing, preserving and exhibiting objects is as important as the significance of the artifacts themselves. With DC Public Library's Manager of Special Collections Kim Zablud, Community Archivist Derek Gray and Transformer Founder & Executive Director Victoria Reis, Cebra will discuss the politics of archiving, and how value is assigned to objects over time.
