The Maru Montero Dance Company and LULAC present the annual National Cinco de Mayo Festival on The Mall. The free festival will celebrate Latin American dance and will feature music and crafts. The Cinco de Mayo celebration is in support of LULAC’s health education initiative, Latinos Living Healthy, which is focused on turning around the obesity crisis in this country. Live performances will feature salsa, Mexican folk dancing, mariachis, and other dance and music. The children’s pavilion will host arts and crafts where young people can make piñatas, build dancing puppets, and play lotería (Mexican bingo) to win prizes. With support from the Walmart Foundation, this particular Cinco de Mayo will provide a unique opportunity for the Latino community to celebrate the Latino culture with healthy food options, health screenings, physical activity, and free healthy cooking demonstrations.
