Anne Bouie, Gale Jamieson, and Michael Platt discuss the work in our latest exhibition, Present-Day Oracles. Before the advent of modernism, the function of art in rituals and storytelling was to bring us closer to one another and to guide us in our search for meaning and relationship with the divine. Although rare in our art world today, there are still artists whose intent is to imbue their artworks with the energy and substance of reliquary works. In this thought-provoking exhibition, Anne Bouie, Gale Jamieson, & Michael Platt serve as present-day oracles – using various mediums and stylistic approaches to conjure a sense of sacred in the present and to reclaim the original intent of art objects as a tool for mystical guidance.
