Climate Legacy Town Hall Meeting with Professor and Study Author Willet Kempton in Alexandria, VA

6:30pm - 9:00pm

Come and hear University of Delaware professor and study author Willett Kempton present his new study providing sustainable solutions for powering American cities. The study shows how renewable energy, along with increases in energy storage systems and efficiency can reliably power cities at a cost that is comparable to today's rates. This Climate Legacy Town Hall Event is part of a nationwide effort to discuss and encourage sustainable solutions for the American power grid. the study  findings and their implications. You can also read Ivy Main's new blog post about the study here and a post on Midwest Energy News here.

The study demonstrates that it is possible to power the grid 99.9% of the time with only solar and wind energy--at a cost comparable to what we are paying today. This counters the conventional wisdom that we will always need large amounts of fossil fuel as a backup when the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine. It also means that the goal of getting largely beyond fossil fuels by 2030 is not just achievable, but practical.

Note: I received confirmation that this event is now at a new location, MetroStage, and slightly earlier time now (originally scheduled for Sierra Club NoVa office at 7:00pm).
