Learn more about Murals in DC! DC Murals Art4All final session will focus on "Past as Prologue" and will be at Dance Place in Brookland
Saturday, September 28th
3:00pm - 5:00pm

Come on out to the last public event through Cultural Tourism DC's Art 4 All program and learn some of the stories behind DC's murals!

DC muralists show how past and present collide in the depiction of historic figures and places. Helena Metaferia’s restoration of iconic figures on a northwest Washington recreation center (Parkview Stories) evoked mixed responses when it went up in 2011; Juan Pineda’s Greetings from Deanwood (2010) places antique images in a pop art frame. Joel Bergner’s The Afro-Colombian Mural (2009) finds hope within the continuing tragedy of racism and human rights violations, while Seasons in the City (Albus CavusCollective, 2009) views Washington’s proud black educational tradition through a jaundiced eye.
