Thursday, February 20th
6:00pm - 9:00pm
by donation, $10 suggested, 21+
Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to create a revolving fund to support new tenant associations with expenses they have to cover during the process of trying to buy their building.
Enjoy live music, food and drink specials and show your support for affordable housing and tenant rights at this fundraiser at Haydee's in Mt Pleasant at this happy hour organized by the Latino Economic Development Center, a great organization based in Adams Morgan, that is one of two local organizations (the other is Housing Counseling Services) funded by grants and able to offer free services to tenants who wish to create Tenant Associations and learn more about their TOPA rights if their building is put up for sale. While the staff is bi-lingual, they work with all people, not just the Latino population.
You'll also have a chance to hear from residents from the Hope Cooperative, who just bought their building through DC’s Tenant Purchase program with support from the Housing Production Trust Fund, and from tenants in Mt Pleasant and Columbia Heights whose buildings are for sale and who are trying to buy them and keep their homes affordable. Help to raise awareness and raise funds to support new tenant associations that are trying to buy their buildings.
