Disclaimer: with the small service fee $10 tickets come to $11.34 Every now and again a make an exception to my formal $10 or less price point, when it seems like a great deal for the lineup and especially when an old friend is one of the performers who is also organizing this event, which I hope will be a huge success for her.
Come out for an evening of comedy at The Bier Baron with my friend, the wild and wonderful Elizabeth Croydon, who is back in the DC area after a being in LA for a while. She'll be performing along with Haywood Turnipseed Jr., Terrance Hawkins, Eric P. Rubin, Gina Brown, Jake Biltey, Erin Gilman, Jesse Rivas, Kasha Patel and Deacon Lars. Late show starts at 9:30pm and usually runs late with pop-ins like Tony Woods, Sean Savoy, Reggie Melbrough. The Bier Baron, formerly the Brickskellar, has a selection of five hundred beers from around the world and a full dinner menu, and a hotel upstairs in case you can't find your way home.
Featured comics: Elizabeth Croydon, an old friend of mine who you can see pictured above in the groovy glasses, has performed at the Improv, The Kennedy Center, Riot Act Comedy Club, World Famous Comedy Store on Sunset Strip, la Jolla Comedy Store, and more. Haywood Turnipseed Jr. has performed at the Lincoln Theatre, the Howard Theatre, Riot Act Comedy Club and Takoma Station. You may be familiar with him from his local comedy shows at Wonderland Ballroom and Solly's. He's even been on TV, on the "Tommy Taylor Show" on PBS, "The Chris Rock Show" on HBO, and promo ads for the CW. Podcasts include "Angry Black Man" and "You, Me, Them, Everybody." Lars Loving is a regularly featured artist on Sirius-XM radio and The Bill O'Reilly Show and is currently based in LA. Read more about these three featured comics on the invite here.
If you haven't already heard... the petition to get enough signatures to put Initiative 71, a measure that would fully legalize possession of marijuana in the District, has been successful and you'll see the vote on the November ballot. Read more on the recent article in the DCist here. Also, in case you didn't know, the D.C. Council even voted in March to decriminalize possession, making it a fine of $25, instead of a year-long jail term. As circulated, the measure would allow people 21 and older to possess as much as two ounces of marijuana for personal use and to grow up to three marijuana plants at home. To steer clear of a direct contradiction of federal law, the measure does not allow for the sale of marijuana. Read more here.
