ANC IC is doing it again! Bring your old electronics and hazardous waste items down to the Mary's Center, 2355 Ontario Rd, NW - enter Ontario Road parking lot - this Saturday morning and they will bring it over to the Fort Totten Transfer Station for recycling for you! They'll also have a mobile secure shredding unit on hand to shred any records you no longer need.

WHAT to bring: household electronics and hazardous waste to be recycled. Also bring any records and papers (e.g., old bank statements, pay stubs, etc.) that you would like to have destroyed. The mobile shredding unit has a video monitor that allows you to watch as your documents are destroyed.

About the band:

Since their early years as teens in a DC church choir, Maureen Andary and Sara Curtin (pictured) have developed a unique musical relationship. Intricate Soprano harmonies soar over multi-instrumental arrangements of ukulele, guitar, flute, hand percussion, accordion, glockenspiel and the occasional kazoo/mouth trumpet solo.

The Sweater Set has been nominated for 7 Washington Area Music Association awards including Best Contemporary Folk Duo of 2010, Best New Artist of 20009, has been awarded two Young Emerging Artist grants from the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities and are 2010-11 Strathmore Artists in Residence in Bethesda, Maryland.

"Happenings at the Harman" is a performance series that takes place at Harman Hall every Wednesday from noon - 1:00pm. The series brings the community up close and personal with the performers and performances at the Harman Center for the Arts as well as throughout the metro-D.C. community. This work builds on Bass’s exploration of images of black women in popular media, commercial hip-hop, and financial transactions between the artist and viewer - combining an endurance performance and a conceptual hip-hop art piece (consisting of 'Jukeboxes" made from Sambo-style penny banks and a wearable "bootyball") that generates and harnesses electric power.
