Looks like many events have been canceled or postponed due to Hurricane Irene so please call to confirm if the events listed for this weekend are still occurring. Free ideas for staying in - stream some Kennedy Center Millennium Stage Archives performances, have friends over for a potluck, or have your own private dance party.
Me.... I'm in Hawaii on vacation visiting a friend who lives out here at an intentional community in Puna, the rain forest side of the Big Island. First time here, really amazing spectrum of nature on this island. Here are some tips for free things to do in Hawaii! Hit the Ahalanu Hot Ponds in Kapoho, Puna (found this video of it). Yesterday we went to Volcano National Park and drove through the lava fields down to the water along Chain of Craters Drive, spectacular views. Free with parks pass. Snorkeling at the tide pools in Kehena today was amazing - and free! Found some pics online - if you ever get here, be sure to check it out. Looks like I got lucky with my timing. Back in DC on the 6th. Posting from here as I am able.
