Thursday, November 18th
- Film Screening of "Bullied" at 6:30pm, followed by Q&A at Busboys and Poets 5th & K St, NW
With lots of talk on TV, the radio and internet these days about the serious issue of bullying and harassment gay teens in schools, tonight’s screening of the documentary “Bullied” is sure to be a great springboard for even more conversation. Bullied: A Student, a School and a Case that Made History chronicles the story of a student who stood up to his anti-gay tormentors and filed a federal lawsuit against his school district. A Q & A will follow the film, which starts at 6:30 p.m. at Busboys and Poets 5th & K St, NW location.
- Art Opening for Karl Burke 7-9pm at the Fridge on 8th St, SE
- Singer Songwriter Showcase 8-11pm at the Hard Rock Cafe 10th & E, St NW
Local singers and songwriters perform a free, all ages show at The Hard Rock Cafe at 10th & E St, NW as part of BMI’s “Hungry for Music” series from 8 to 11 p.m. The evening will include a special acoustic set by Lucky Duband performances by Jim and Ashley Cash of Woven Green, David Andrew Smith, Ryan Hammer and showcase host Margot MacDonald. Donations and musical instruments collected during the show support Hungry for Music, an organization that reaches out to underprivileged kids to teach and share the power of music.
- House of Soul performs at Bossa in Adams Morgan, 10pm - 1am, $3, 21+
If you’re in the mood for some funk and soul jams, head over to Bossa in Adams Morgan where House of Soul, featuring bassist Matt Grason, will be performing their blend of improvised grooves and remixes along with the vocal assistance of Rochelle Rice from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. This is a 21+ event and there is a $3 cover.
