East of the River is the place to be Friday night with three opening shows. Two of the shows are in Anacostia at Honfleur Gallery and at Vivid Solutions. The third show is at the Tubman-Mahan Gallery at the Center for Green Urbanism in Ward 7. Saturday night, head over to Evolve Urban Arts Project off of H Street NE to see the opening show of two local mid-city artists.
Friday, March 4th
Honfleur Gallery presents Try a Little Tenderness as Painful as it Seems by Canadian artist Ben Skinner and curated by anonymous blogger “The Jealous Curator”. According to the Jealous Curator, Skinner’s eclectic work is filled with tongue-and-cheek humor and just the right amount of social tension. The opening reception will be held from 7pm to 9pm. 1241 Good Hope Road SE, Washington DC 20020
The Gallery at Vivid Solutions opens Gérard Lange’s Cartograph from 6pm to 8pm. Cartograph is Lange’s first solo show. His mixed media collages derive from an artist journal he has been keeping about his life experiences since 1996. The Gallery at Vivid Solutions is located at 2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE.
The Thickart Collaborative, in conjunction with the Center for Green Urbanism and Authentic Contemporary Art present the sixth annual Making HerStory, women’s art celebration at The Center for Green Urbanism. A reception will be held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The Center for Green Urbanism is located at 3938 Benning Road, NE two blocks from Minnesota Avenue Metro; free parking is available in the rear or across the street at the Benning Road Library.
Saturday, March 5th
The Evolve Urban Arts Project presents Like Nowhere I’ve Been: Landscapes de un Sueño featuring the works of photographer Mark Parascandola and visual artist John M. Adams. Both Parascandola and Adams are members of the local Mid-City Artists collective. The reception will be held from 5pm to 8pm at 1375 Maryland Avenue, NE
