Weekend East City Round Up: Women’s History Month Edition
Women take center stage this weekend with discussion panels that shed light on the challenges faced by women artists. Three concurrent exhibitions, all by female artists, open at Conner Contemporary. Finally, a new art space dedicated to silk screening will host an open house Saturday evening.
Saturday, March 19th
2:00pm - 4:00pm
The Brentwood Arts Exchange will host an afternoon of dialogue entitled “Message in a Bottle” with artist Martha Jackson-Jarvis and artist/curator/writer A.M. Weaver. The Gateway Arts Center is located just over Eastern Avenue at 3901 Rhode Island Avenue in Brentwood, MD
6:00pm - 8:00pm
NOTE: Industry Gallery, which is located above Conner Contemporary, will NOT be hosting a joint opening with Conner as they are accustomed to doing. 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Open Studio DC, a new art space at 1348 Florida Ave NE located right next door to Conner Contemporary and G Fine Art, will host an open house in the evening. Open Studio DC will serve primarily as a silk screening studio for artists. The open house will be an opportunity to view silk screening demonstrations. Light refreshments will be served.
Sunday, March 20th
2:00pm - 5:00pm
Can you name five or more woman artists? Did you know that 80 percent of art school students are women yet 70 percent of all artists shown in the US are men? “Who does she think she is?” directed Pamela Tanner Boll seeks to shed light on the challenges faced by women artists. A panel discussion moderated by Fox News 5 News anchor Shawn Yancey will follow. The event will be held at the Center for Green Urbanism at 3938 Benning RD, NE.
