In Columbia Heights, BloomBars hosts their Indie Film Night, BloomScreen, featuring the film Only When I Dance (2009, 78 min) the feel-good true story of two sisters, Irlan and Isabela, from the violent favelas of Rio de Janeiro, who pursue their dreams of becoming professional ballet dancers from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. After the film, you’ll hear from London-based filmmaker Beadie Finzi, and can join in a discussion led by local dancer Sylvana Sandoz, head of the Glade Dance Collective of Washington, DC. Free popcorn and refreshments will be available to enhance your movie-watching experience. Donations of $5- $10 are encouraged.

The Guerrilla Poetry Insurgency - hosted by my friend Jessica Philie - hits the stage at Bossa in Adams Morgan for their monthly open mic night, open to poets and spoken word artists of all backgrounds, styles and ages. Always a good time, from 7 to 9 p.m.
