DC Supersonic Kirtan returns to Buddha B, with Laksmi Nrsimha and his wife Pattarajni, who will be joining in for an evening of ecstatic chanting. Laksmi's kirtans "are well known for their infectious spirit and funky rhythms, so come ready to dance and leave blissed out!"
"You needn’t be from India or do yoga or have a great voice or subscribe to any particular spiritual belief to enjoy kirtan – just bring your open hearts, dancing feet, and clapping hands! Kids are welcome. Chant sheets for the mantras are always provided." Stick around for free vegan cookies afterwards.
Curious about Kirtan? Kirtan is call-and-response chanting of sacred sound accompanied by the playing of musical instruments. This enlivening spiritual practice is an integral part of the tradition of devotional yoga called Bhakti yoga that originated in India many centuries ago. The mantras that are chanted are meant to awaken our connection to the supersoul within each of our hearts.
Laksmi Nrsimha das, a long time practitioner of bhakti yoga, has not only has managed ashrams in Puerto Rico and the United States, but was an acknowledged influence on the straight edge-hardcore music scene that grew into ‘Krishnacore” in the early 1990’s. He released his long-awaited first kirtan album, Chants Encounter, in 2008.
