Gian Garofalo's "Ain't That America..." at Long View Gallery
Free
Thursday, May 2nd -  Sunday, June 2nd

Open Sunday 12:00pm - 5:00pm

This exhibit marks Chicago-based artist Garofalo’s first solo show at Long View Gallery and in Washington, D.C.

Gian Garofalo  is a visual artist who explores color and technique through the application of resin and pigments. Inspired by several contemporary artists, including Gene Davis of the Washington Color School, Garofalo meticulously applies resin to panel, creating stripes that slowly gravitate to the base, ultimately punctuating the work with intriguingly suspended paint droplets.

"In this exhibit Garofalo presents a new body of work employing his distinctive yet familiar style. Ain’t That America… presents a vibrant medley of Garofalo’s resin drip paintings composed in varied color palettes. Executed in a wide range of shapes and sizes, the artist continues to explore this finicky yet rewarding medium. A selection of pieces will feature pop culture artifacts, some still relevant, others lost and forgotten. Physically incorporating these elements into the work acts as a rebirth of sorts, transporting the viewer to the relevant time. The pieces in Ain’t That America… were inspired by childhood, fatherhood, and contemporary culture. This is a body of work intended to incorporate humor, wonder, irony and a decided bit of seriousness."
