In 1861, Abraham Lincoln signed an act to recognize "gallantry in action." A century and a half later, the Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded. This special Featured Document Display will include a Civil War–era Medal of Honor and written testimony of the heroic actions of Pvt. Samuel E. Eddy during an 1865 battle.
