BloomBars hosts another screening of "Salvador Dawning (2011, 54 min) (view trailer) by Kamau Hunter – examines the Movimento Negro – Brazil’s equal rights movement for Afro-Brazilians. Although they comprise 47% of the population, and have made tremendous contributions to the culture and society, Afro-Brazilians face disproportionate social and economic barriers. “Salvador Dawning” tells how today’s Afro-Brazilian leaders are bolstering the rights and quality of life of Afro-Brazilians – through new policies, and programs of workforce and community development. Their struggles and victories provide invaluable lessons for us all. The screening will be followed by a panel of experts, led by a discussion with the film’s Executive Producer, Dr. Keith Hunter." The film is in Portuguese with English subtitles.
