Poetry in Bloom writing group workshop with Derrick Weston Brown at BloomBars
Sunday, July 7th
5:00pm - 6:00pm
All ages, $10 donation requested

"Poetry in Bloom is a monthly poetry writing group facilitated by local teaching artists. We plant the seeds for new poetry by free-writing using writing prompts, sharing our work, and getting some practice reading aloud. No experience necessary (but paper and pen are). Please note our new monthly day and time-- first Sundays of the month from 5 to 6pm."

Some highlights about the guest facilitator: Derrick Weston Brown holds an MFA in creative writing, from American University, and has studied poetry under Dr. Tony Medina at Howard University and Cornelius Eady at AU.  He works as a bookseller and book buyer for Teaching for Change located at Busboys and Poets. As the first Poet-In-Residence of Busboys, he is the founder and curator of The Nine on the Ninth, a five-year-old monthly poetry series, and helps coordinate the poetry programming at the 14th & V street location. He teaches Poetry and Creative writing to an amazing crew of seventh and eighth graders at Hart Middle school in Southeast Washington, DC and a small but gifted class of high schoolers at Emerson Preparatory School. He is currently the Writer-In-Residence of Howard County Maryland for the 2012-2013 academic year.
