"Le Temps Devant (Our Time Ahead): Anachronism and Utopia in the French Countryside" is an ensemble of nine large format images intended to depict modern day peasants from the French Countryside. The artist, Frederic Nauczyciel strives for the works to be perceived in a non-documentary style format, but rather a recreation of a classic painting. Both photographer and subject are equally as important in these photographic, portrait-like depictions. More important to this body of work is the photographic process which is not commonly used today, cibachrome. This is a unique method for developing a hand-made photographic print directly from a slide. In cibachrome the depth of color is also derived through the polyester paper that is used rather than through chemistry." Le Temps Devant produced and funded by ARCH Development Corporation in collaboration with the Alliance Française of Washington.

If you're going to check out this show, you might want to also stop by Honfleur's sister gallery, The Gallery at Vivid Solutions to check out Benjamin's Nguyen's exhibit "birdsdecay" a few blocks away, around the corner at 2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, SE.
