Heaven's Mirror: A Portuguese Voyage (2011, 76 min) (See trailer), is Joshua Dylan Mellars' award-winning film about Fado music and the nostalgia of immigrants. The film goes deep into the spell of fado, the hauntingly beautiful Portuguese folk music, and its salient emotion--longing or “saudade.” Sharing travels from the Portuguese immigrant enclaves of California to New England's former whaling ports, then to Lisbon’s candle-lit fado houses and Indian Goa's steamy, pastel bungalows.

The film will be followed by Q&A with director Joshua Dylan Mellars, live via Skype. They will also be joined by Iane Campos-Siddique, organizer of the Washington Portuguese Language Meetup and a university Adjunct Lecturer in Portuguese.

BloomScreen Indie Film Night – is a weekly series of independent and foreign films, accompanied by discussions with filmmakers and other experts. The goal of this series is to provide a unique experience that you can't find at the local theater, a post-screening discussion where audience members can share their thoughts about the issues affecting our communities and our world.
