WJMF Year-Round presents "Chopin at the Opera" featuring Alex Peh, piano, and Laura Bass, soprano. "Frederic Chopin deeply admired bel canto opera. The great aria from Bellini's Norma, "Casta Diva" was Chopin's favorite work of art--and his many relationships with opera singers served as sources of artistic inspiration."
"Pauline Viardot was one of Chopin's intimate muses, Giuditta Pasta was another. Their beautiful coluratura voices inspired Chopin's piano writing and prompted him to advise all his students to listen to and learn from great singers."
"In a recital that pairs iconic solo piano works with great opera arias of the time, Alex Peh and Laura Bass of the Levine School of Music will capture the spirit of the Parisian salon and reveal the strong relationship between bel canto opera and Chopin's unique cantabile style."
