On view Friday, August 24th - Sunday, November 4th
Curated by Cynthia Connolly, Artisphere Visual Arts Curator. Inspired by the Joni Mitchell song, “Big Yellow Taxi” where “they paved paradise and they put up a parking lot,” Beyond the Parking Lot shows contemporary landscapes by artists who are observing these changes, exposing the use of the environment in compromising ways and instigates the discussion of “where do we go from here?” hoping to motivate the viewer to think about how we have used the land that surrounds us in our everyday life. These scarred landscapes covered in pavement—be it vacated buildings, parking lots and roadways—are found across the United States.
Artists in this exhibition include two local artists based in DC, Trevor Young and Frank Hallam Day, along with Baltimore based artists Amanda Burnham and Rachel Sitkin, Julia Christensen (Oberlin, OH), Maya Ciarrocchi (New York, NY), Richard Crozier (Charlottesville, VA), Gregory Euclide (Le Sueur, MN) and Alex Lukas (Philadelphia, PA).
1101 Wilson Blvd - Arlington, VA
Metro: Rosslyn, short walk from metro, just turn right from the exit and left on Wilson and look for the domed building.
